Understanding how Google works is the most important aspect of successfully getting visitors to your website. Even if you have a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) company that does it all for you, it is important to at least have a basic understanding yourself.
Many SEO companies have reputations that rival Used Car Salesmen when it comes to ripping people off. The more you understand the better equipped you will be to see if you are actually getting what you’re paying for. It also allows you to choose the right strategies to suit your companies needs.
Does Anyone Really Know How Google Works?
One of the great things about being involved with the Internet and Google, is that despite every expert claiming to know exactly how Google works, the truth is, they are only guessing. Whilst they may be ‘very educated’ guesses the fact remains that Googles search algorithm is deliberately kept very secret. BUT – In reality anyone who has put a fair amount of time, effort and research into finding out how Google works will be able to give you a very accurate summation of Google’s ranking process.
Questions, Questions, Questions
When you type a ‘search phrase’ into Google it has a very tough job to accurately find the 10 websites that it thinks will be most relevant to that particular ‘search phrase’. So how does Google do such a good job within a fraction of a second? It asks Questions – Lots of them!
Have a look at this great video that shows Matt Cutts (from Google) explaining exactly how Google Search Works.
Check back for Part 2 where we will talk about what these questions are?
