Last month Google made a significant change to their algorithm. What is the Google algorithm? In short it is the way Google decides how to rank websites. The most recent update has been labelled the Farmer/Panda Update. ‘Panda’ we think is in reference to a Google engineer Navneet Panda who is credited with playing a big part in the update. ‘Farmer’ because lots of the most effected sites are so called ‘content farms’.

One of the worst hit sites was ezinearticles, here is a very interesting response from their CEO Chris Knight. Overnight the farmer update has slashed the monthly visitors of their site by millions of views – Click Here to see his response.
Google have said that the recent updates effect roughly 12% of search results. By anyone’s standards that is a big change. So why are they making these changes? Quite simply Google wants to make sure that its search results are the highest quality possible. For as long as Google is a search engine they will continue to work tirelessly on trying to fine tune their algorithm and give their customers the very best browsing experience.
So how does it effect your site? For the average business owner you probably won’t even notice a difference. If you have noticed a difference in your rankings then its simply a matter of continuing to create great content that will build high quality incoming links to your site.
